The Reasoning are ‘ReAwakening’
in 2023!
UK prog institution The Reasoning
have re-formed, and will mark their return with a performance at the fourth
Fusion Prog Festival in March.
The band’s appearance at Fusion
4, at Stourport Civic Centre on March 5th, comes some four years after their
farewell show – at The Robin 2 in September 2019 – and will see them play
alongside other much-loved prog acts including IQ, Solstice, Cyan and Mick Pointer’s
Script.
Joining The Reasoning’s original
rhythm section – drummer Vinden Wylde and bassist Matthew Cohen – is
vocalist/guitarist Maria Owen, who appeared on the group’s acclaimed albums
Adverse Camber and Acoustically Speaking. The band is joined on guitar by the
maestro that is Ben Baljak. A new found talent who will wow you from the off.
Finally and definitely not least, the multi talented Rich Harding will be
joining The Reasoning on keyboards and vocals.
As for The Reasoning’s surprise
re-formation, bassist and founding member Matthew Cohen says: “Time is a great
healer, and after lots of consideration and consultation – alongside the simple
fact that ‘home is where the heart is’ – we decided to awaken the Dark Angel(s)
within us all. Above all, we wanted to go have some fun again, playing the
songs that took on a life of their own on stage, and that were so dear to many
of The Reasoning’s fans.”
Just as importantly, Cohen notes
that when revisiting their impressive catalogue, the band are also
acknowledging the contribution of all the members who have passed through the
ranks over the years. “Their musical DNA still runs through the songs,” Cohen
says, “and their contribution, their place in the band’s history, will always
be a source of pride. This rebirth, this ‘ReAwakening’, is being done solely
out of a love for the music. It really is that simple.”
The band are currently working on
their live set for their appearance at Fusion 4, and fans might be pleased to
know that The Reasoning are also in the early stages of writing their brand
new, fifth studio album, expected in 2024.
Formed in Cardiff, Wales in 2005,
The Reasoning secured their reputation on the progressive music scene with 2007
debut album Awakening. The record featured guest guitarist Steve Rothery, and
that same year the band supported Marillion at Bristol’s Colston Hall, going on
to appear at the famed Marillion Weekend in the Netherlands, and supporting
Marillion again on home turf – The Great Hall in Cardiff – in 2012.
The band have opened for Fish
several times, and have performed across the UK, Europe and the US. Their
appearance at the 2010 High Voltage Festival in London was immortalised
on live DVD, Highway To High Voltage, while concert album Live In The USA:
The Bottle Of Gettysburg features their set at 2011’s RoSFest.
The Reasoning’s other studio
albums comprise Dark Angel (2008), Adverse Camber (2010) and Adventures In
Neverland (2012) with unplugged album Acoustically Speaking (2010) and EP And
Another Thing… completing their discography to date.
The group may have parted ways in
2019 but now, four years on, the ‘ReAwakening’ can begin…….
